Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the section below, Guidelines for Authors, along with the template files.
  • Attach the List of Authors and Affiliations and Conflict of Interest Statementas separate files.

  • Articles submitted to the Revista Científica da FAMINAS will be evaluated by independent reviewers (at least two), who will assess the academic, scientific, and technological merit of the article (peer review). The evaluations follow a double-blind process (i.e., reviewers will not know who the authors are, and authors will not know who the reviewers are). This evaluation format ensures that the article is judged without conflicts of interest, such as potential issues or favoritism between authors and reviewers. The double-blind peer review process improves the quality and validity of the articles published in the journal.
  • When applicable, a copy of the Research Ethics Committee Approval Report must be attached.
    Refer to Resolution number 466, dated December 12, 2012, of the Conselho Nacional de Saúde (National Health Council), available on Plataforma Brasil.
  • Attach the Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in a separate file.

    Before submitting the article, we suggest that authors perform a plagiarism check using softwares, e.g. CopySpider. This step is essential to ensure the originality of the text and to avoid rejection due to non-original content.

Author Guidelines

TECHNICAL AND EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR ARTICLE SUBMISSION

FOCUS AND SCOPE

a) The Revista Científica da FAMINAS accepts original scientific articles in the multidisciplinary field of knowledge. This area may include the following programs: Business Administration, Systems Analysis and Development, Architecture and Urbanism, Biomedicine, Accounting, Law, Physical Education, Civil Engineering, Production Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Gastronomy, Medicine, Nutrition, Dentistry, Psychology, and Information Systems.

b) Articles may be submitted for publication in the following sections:

  • Original Article (research);
  • Case Report (accepted in limited number);
  • Experience Report (accepted in limited number);
  • Literature Review (accepted in limited number).

TECHNICAL GUIDELINES FOR ARTICLE SUBMISSION

a) Articles must be submitted in Microsoft Word format and have a maximum file size of 5MB.

b) Paper size: A4;

c) Page margins layout: Normal (top: 3 cm; bottom: 2 cm; left: 3 cm; right: 2 cm);

d) Font: Times New Roman, regular style, size 12; abstract in size 10;

e) Line spacing: 1.5; text alignment: justified;

f) Use single spacing only in the abstract, footnotes, long quotations, captions, references, and sources of illustrations and tables (ABNT NBR 14724:2011);

g) Items and subitems must appear in lowercase letters (except the first letter), in bold, and always start on the same page, with no blank spaces between them. Use numbering for items (1, 2, 3, etc.) and sub-numbering for subitems (1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc.). Section and subsection titles must be separated by double spacing. Long titles that occupy more than one line must be aligned from the second line below the first letter of the first word of the title (ABNT NBR 14724:2011);

h) Footnotes: Use only for explanatory notes. In the text, use the author-date system (ABNT NBR 10520:2002); font size 9; single line spacing and justified alignment. The note must be aligned from the second line to highlight the superscript, with no space between lines (ABNT NBR 14724:2011);

i) Citations: May be literal transcriptions (short direct citation) or a synthesis of the cited passage (indirect citation), formatted according to ABNT NBR 10520:2002. All cited sources must be listed in the references section at the end of the article, with single spacing;

j) Illustrations and tables: Must be inserted as close as possible to the relevant part of the text, in font size 12. To ensure quality, they must be in JPG or EMF format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Identification must appear above the item (e.g., drawing, diagram, flowchart, graph, chart, figure, table), followed by its number in Arabic numerals. The source must be included below the item and is mandatory, even if the illustration or table is created by the author (ABNT NBR 14724:2011);

l) Any images, graphs, or similar elements inserted in the article must also be submitted separately in their original program format;

m) When mentioned for the first time in the text, acronyms must appear in parentheses preceded by the full name. Example: The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) is a government agency (...);

n) Articles must be submitted with proper spelling and grammar.

Articles that do not meet these requirements will be returned to the authors.


ARTICLE STRUCTURE

a) Title: Must be clear and objective, and may include a subtitle. It must be written in Portuguese and a foreign language, in uppercase letters, bold, centered, font size 12. Subtitle (if any) must be separated by a colon (:);

b) Abstract and keywords: The abstract must contain up to 250 words and be accompanied by 3 to 5 keywords, separated by semicolons (;) and ending with a period. The abstract must be written in a single paragraph, without indentation, and in single spacing. In addition to the Portuguese version, the abstract (abstract) and keywords (keywords) must be provided in an internationally recognized foreign language (English);

c) Main text: Usually includes three basic parts: Introduction, Development (Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion), and Conclusion.

  • Introduction: Brief presentation of the topic, relating the literature to the subject of the article. It should include: (1) a preliminary overview of the topic, including definitions, concepts, viewpoints, and approaches; (2) justification for the topic choice; (3) objectives and the plan adopted for the research or study. It should place the research problem in the broader context of the field and indicate the assumptions necessary for understanding. Illustrations, tables, and graphs are not recommended in this section.

  • Development: Must be divided into sections (ABNT NBR 6024:2003), such as:

    1. Materials and Methods: Detailed description of methodological procedures and techniques used for data collection and analysis. This section should allow replication of the study. Questionnaires, interviews, or other supplementary materials may be included as appendices or supplementary files.
    2. Results and Discussion: Presentation of research results in a detailed, objective, and clear manner. Avoid personal interpretations or comments. Results should be supported or contrasted with literature references. This section may include new hypotheses and study limitations. Depending on the author's style or need, the “Discussion” may be presented separately.
  • Conclusion: Final part of the article, providing a response to the research problem stated in the introduction. It should be brief, concise, and refer to the hypotheses and results. The author may present their viewpoint based on the evaluated and interpreted results. This section may also include recommendations or suggestions for future research.

Sources used by the author must be listed at the end of the article, in accordance with ABNT NBR 6023:2018, following the examples below:

ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS

d) Academic acknowledgments: Optional. Must be concise and truly necessary to mention individuals who contributed to the work but are not listed as co-authors, or institutions that provided funding or material support.

e) Conflict of interest statement: Required from all authors.

f) List of Authors and Affiliations: Must be submitted on a separate sheet (see below under 'Template Files for Submission'), including full name, academic degree, institutional affiliation, and correspondence address. Author names must be in bold, centered, with surname in uppercase letters. Institutional affiliations may be numbered using superscripts (1, 2, 3, etc.), along with email addresses in italics.

g) Appendices and/or supplementary materials: May be included, especially to detail data analysis and enhance understanding of the study.
