Abstract

Objective: To analyze the factors involved in the choice of therapy by primary care physicians in the treatment of respiratory infections in the pediatric population in the SUS. Methods: 163 medical records were analyzed, exclusively of patients up to 15 years of age, who came to the Basic Health Units (UBS) for respiratory complaints in 2022 and 2023. Results: 102 records were from male patients and 60 from female patients. It was shown that most patients, regardless of age group, sought care with complaints of coryza, cough and/or fever and the minority (9.88%) of patients had comorbidities that could predispose them to a greater risk of infections or complications. Only 30 medical records (18.40%) showed antibiotic prescriptions. Conclusion: After analyzing the medical records, it was found that there was no widespread prescription of antimicrobials, which corroborates the practice of rational antibiotic use.
